Greetings. A version of this letter will be sent to the Cortez Journal and hopefully published.
Dear Editor,
Please consider publishing this letter for the benefit of the Cortez
Community:
Are Cortez residential streets so narrow that automobile owners have legitimate worries about having their vehicles side swiped? I don't think so, they seem to be of adequate width. So I am at a loss to explain the epidemic of people parking half of their vehicles, two wheels, on the sidewalk of my northeast Cortez neighborhood. Do they think it looks cool? It doesn't.
I can only conclude that the people with this boorish behaviour are completely inconsiderate of their fellow citizens who happen to walk on the sidewalks. They don't care that mothers pushing baby
strollers, children, the elderly, disabled people, and anybody else
who wishes to walk out of the way of traffic must leave the sidewalk
and walk into the street to get around their precious automobiles.
They must think the safety of their vehicles are more important than the safety and convenience of people who walk on the sidewalks.
Surely this practice of parking vehicles on residential sidewalks is
illegal. And I imagine the city of Cortez could use the revenue. Why not start enforcing this law, if not for the sake of public safety and justice, then for revenue?
